Wildlife-Permeable Fencing

Premium boundary fencing designed from the ground up to let wildlife disperse underneath — hedgehogs, toads, newts, grass snakes, water voles and small mustelids — while still doing the stock-proof, boundary, security or deer-exclusion job you need above ground. Built in FSC-certified sustainable timber, recycled steel and reclaimed stone. No pressure-treated softwood, no creosote, no chemical preservatives that leach into soil and ponds.

Premium pricing — and why. Wildlife-permeable fencing costs more than a standard panel fence because it has to work twice as hard: stock-proof or security-grade above the sward, and genuinely permeable at ground level. We only quote in materials that hold up for 20–40 years without the creosote / copper-chromated preservatives that poison soil and ponds. The premium buys longevity, habitat connectivity and a boundary that contributes to BNG rather than fighting against it.

Every spec below has a 13 cm × 13 cm dispersal gap at the base at regular intervals (the hedgehog-highway standard), or a continuous lift-off gap for larger fauna where the above-ground brief allows. We site the gaps using ecologist-identified movement corridors, not at random.

Every run is quoted per site, so all orders are handled by email. We scope the materials, dispersal-gap layout and installation before sending a secure pay-by-email invoice.

Sustainable materials — what we use, what we don't

FSC-certified sustainable timber — oak, sweet chestnut and larch for posts and paling. Durable without chemical treatment.
Non-toxic natural finishes only — raw linseed oil, tung oil and plant-wax finishes where a finish is needed.
Recycled steel for mesh inserts and fixings — lower embodied carbon than virgin galvanised.
Reclaimed stone for dry-stone boundaries where local to the site.
No creosote. No copper-chromated pressure-treated softwood. No PVC-coated wire. Nothing that can leach into soil and ponds.
